Even though the Cashmere colourway gives it a retro vibe, the 2021 F-Si Carbon 5 is a true modern racing weapon. An aggressive geometry, a carbon fibre frame and lightweight components make this an excellent cross country mountain bike that does a great job at both short races and longer marathons. And it just looks stunning, regardless of which angle you’re looking at it from.
Detailed explanation
Based on the BallisTec Carbon frame, the F-Si Carbon 5 checks all the boxes for a lightweight racing bike. You get the SAVE micro-suspension rear triangle, as well as a Speed Release 12mm thru-axle, in an overall very lightweight package that’s ready for your next racing weekend. Upfront is Fox’s Float Factory 32 StepCast fork, with 100mm of travel and excellent performance.
Shimano’s MT500 hydraulic disk brakes are paired with a SRAM Eagle drivetrain, with NX Eagle rear derailleur and shifter, and SX Eagle cassette and chain. There’s also the Stylo 6K DUB crankset, with a 34T chainring and Ai offset. This gives you a 12-speed drivetrain that’s incredibly easy to maintain and keep running while performing admirably when you’re charging up hills on your next XC race.
The wheels are a stiff combination that doesn’t weigh too much and performs very well. And they’re wrapped in Schwalbe’s Performance series tyres, with a Racing Ray at the front and a Racing Ralph at the rear, which means grip is no problem when you’re riding fast.
Add to this Cannondale’s 3 series seat post, stem and handlebar, as well as Fabric’s Scoop Shallow seat and FunGuy grips, and you’re looking at an excellent XC racing bike that’s also comfortable enough for a marathon or two.
